Essential Training
GCM Physical Intervention Training (In-Person) This is a mandatory training for staff in children's homes and is often one of the provider's largest expenses. However, training with Blenducate offers the most cost-effective approach to restraint training in London. The GCM Physical Intervention Training focuses on teaching staff safe and appropriate techniques for managing physical interventions. It ensures that restraint situations are handled with the utmost safety and respect for the dignity of children, using methods that are compliant with best practices and regulations. In line with Regulation 20 of The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, restraint is only permitted in specific circumstances: To prevent injury to any person, including the child. To prevent serious damage to property, including the child’s own property. By completing this training, staff are fully equipped to manage challenging situations effectively, ensuring the safety of all involved while adhering to legal and ethical standards.

First AID ....In regulated children’s and adult services, it is a legal requirement to have a registered first aider on shift at all times. According to Regulation 31(a) of The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, "at all times, at least one person on duty at the home must have a suitable first aid qualification." Our First Aid (In-Person) Training provides staff with the essential skills needed to respond to medical emergencies and deliver immediate care. This training ensures that staff are fully equipped to handle health-related incidents effectively and safely, safeguarding the well-being of both children and adults in their care. By completing this training, your team will meet the legal requirements, ensuring compliance while fostering a safe and responsive environment in your home.
Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Training (In-Person) is crucial for staff working in children's homes, particularly given that violence and sexual offenses are among the most prolific crimes in London. This makes it essential to prioritize CSE training, even if the children have not previously experienced this specific risk. The training is designed to enhance awareness of the risks and signs of CSE, equipping staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognize, respond to, and prevent exploitation scenarios. It ensures that staff are well-prepared to protect children effectively and intervene early, providing a critical layer of protection. By offering in-person training, staff benefit from interactive sessions, practical scenarios, and real-time feedback, which enhance their ability to handle complex, sensitive situations with confidence and care. Given the prevalence of such crimes, this training is a proactive measure to safeguard children, regardless of their past experiences.

Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) Training (In-Person) is essential for staff in children's homes because of the growing threat of children being exploited by criminal organizations, including involvement in gang activities or illegal enterprises. This type of exploitation often targets vulnerable children, who may be coerced into criminal activity through manipulation, threats, or peer pressure. The in-person module helps staff understand the indicators of criminal exploitation, such as sudden changes in behavior, association with gang members, or unexplained possessions. It equips staff with prevention strategies and practical techniques to recognize the early signs of exploitation, ensuring timely interventions to protect the children in their care. By prioritizing this training, staff are better able to safeguard the safety and well-being of children, addressing both the immediate and long-term impact of criminal exploitation. The in-person format allows for immersive learning, enabling staff to discuss real-life scenarios and develop effective responses, ensuring that they are prepared to handle these challenging situations in the best interests of the children.
Missing from Care Training (In-Person) is crucial because children in care are particularly vulnerable to going missing, often due to a variety of factors such as trauma, fear, or exploitation. When children go missing, they are at heightened risk of harm, including exploitation, violence, or exposure to dangerous environments. This in-person training equips staff with prevention tactics to reduce the likelihood of children going missing and ensures they understand the effective response protocols necessary to handle these situations. It covers everything from recognizing early signs that a child may be planning to leave, to safely accounting for their return and addressing the reasons behind the disappearance. Given the urgency and emotional intensity of these situations, in-person training allows staff to engage directly with the material, practice real-life scenarios, and ask questions to clarify the processes. It ensures that staff are fully prepared to act quickly and responsibly, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the children. This training is essential for creating a proactive approach to managing missing from care incidents, helping homes meet regulatory standards while protecting children.

Trauma-Informed Practice (In-Person) is vital for staff working in children's homes because many children in care have experienced significant trauma. Trauma can have profound effects on a child's emotional, psychological, and behavioral well-being, impacting their ability to form trusting relationships and cope with everyday challenges. This in-person training promotes practices that focus on healing and resilience, helping staff to understand the impact of trauma on a child’s development. By incorporating the BEACON model as an alternative to PACE, the training offers evidence-based approaches that are specifically designed to support trauma care. BEACON emphasizes relationship-building, empathy, and proactive intervention, ensuring that staff can respond to children’s needs in a compassionate and structured way. In-person training is particularly important for trauma-informed practice because it allows for interactive learning, where staff can explore complex scenarios, receive immediate feedback, and engage in discussions about best practices. This hands-on approach helps staff internalize the principles of trauma care, making them better equipped to support children through their healing process and build environments that foster safety, trust, and emotional resilience.
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Training (In-Person) is essential for staff in children's homes because it emphasizes proactive strategies that promote positive behavior while preventing challenging behaviors. Many children in care have experienced trauma, instability, or emotional difficulties, which can manifest in disruptive behaviors. PBS offers a compassionate and constructive approach to managing these challenges. This in-person training helps staff understand the underlying causes of behavior and provides preventative strategies that focus on reinforcing positive behaviors rather than simply reacting to negative ones. By addressing behavior in a proactive way, staff can enhance the overall well-being of children, creating a supportive environment where children feel safe, understood, and encouraged to succeed. The in-person format allows staff to engage with real-life scenarios and practice applying PBS techniques in a hands-on setting. This interactive approach helps build confidence in using these strategies effectively, ensuring that staff can respond to children's behavioral needs in a way that promotes long-term emotional growth and stability. Incorporating PBS also leads to improved relationships between staff and children, contributing to a more harmonious and constructive care environment.

BEACON (An Alternative to PACE) Training (In-Person) offers a structured and compassionate approach to trauma care, designed as a powerful alternative to the PACE model. Many children in care have experienced significant trauma, and BEACON emphasizes the importance of understanding and responding to trauma in ways that foster healing, emotional resilience, and positive behavior. Unlike more traditional models, BEACON provides a more holistic framework that integrates emotional support with behavioral management, helping children build trust and develop the tools they need to manage their feelings and actions in a positive manner. It focuses on creating nurturing environments that encourage children to heal and thrive. In-person training is particularly effective for BEACON because it allows for interactive learning and real-time feedback, giving staff the opportunity to practice techniques and gain deeper insight into trauma-informed care. By mastering the BEACON approach, staff are better equipped to provide children with the support they need to recover from trauma, while also maintaining positive behavior and emotional well-being.
Anti-Ligature Training (In-Person) is essential for staff in children's homes, particularly due to the high rates of self-harm often linked to adverse childhood experiences. Children who have endured trauma or emotional distress may be more vulnerable to self-harming behaviors, making it crucial for staff to be well-prepared to manage these risks effectively. This training equips staff with the knowledge and skills to identify and mitigate ligature risks in the care environment. By understanding where and how ligature points may exist, staff can proactively address potential hazards, ensuring the physical safety of the children in their care. The training focuses on suicide prevention skills, enabling staff to respond swiftly and appropriately to incidents of self-harm or ligature-related risks. With the skills learned, staff are empowered to save lives by managing such crises effectively and reducing the likelihood of future incidents. Additionally, this in-person training meets the legal requirements set out by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), ensuring compliance with safety standards while providing critical, life-saving interventions. The hands-on, practical nature of in-person training enhances staff readiness, giving them the confidence and competence to protect the well-being of vulnerable children.

Fire Marshal Training is critical for staff in children's homes to ensure they are fully prepared to act as fire marshals, a role that is essential for maintaining safety and compliance with Regulation 25 of The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015. This regulation emphasizes the importance of having robust fire safety measures in place to protect both children and staff. By completing this training, staff gain the necessary skills to prevent fire risks, respond to emergencies, and effectively lead fire evacuation procedures. This includes understanding how to identify potential fire hazards, use fire safety equipment, and execute emergency plans in a timely and organized manner. The training ensures that staff are not only compliant with fire safety regulations but are also equipped to safeguard the lives of children in their care. In-person training provides the opportunity for staff to practice real-life scenarios, engage with fire safety tools, and receive immediate feedback on their responses, making them more confident and effective in handling fire-related emergencies. Given the potential severity of fire incidents, having well-trained fire marshals on staff is a legal and practical necessity for any children's home.
